Larry Rabe Obituary
LARRY RABE 4/26/1947-10/13/2013 Born in Oroville, CA to Elaine Rabe. Attended Palermo School, Las Plumas High School, class of 1965. Summers were spent in Malin, OR to work as a hay hauler with his Uncle Stan. Eventually he made Malin his home and took a job with a local market. In 1971, he married his first wife, Kathy Derra. In 1975 their first child, Justin, was born. In 1980, their second child, Kristin followed. In 1981, the family moved to Oroville, CA to pursue a small business venture. During this time Larry learned the meat cutting trade. In 1988, he sold the market and became a member of the UFCW. In 1990, he moved to the Reno area, where he was a manager of the meat department at Raley's. He lived in the Reno area for many years, where both of his children lived with him. Larry was very happy living in the Reno area as he was able to pursue his favorite hobbies, hunting and fishing. In 2007, he transferred to California to be closer to his family. In 2008, he finally fulfilled his dream of retiring. This came just in time for the birth of his first grandchild in February 2009. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, restoring old cars, and anything that involved spending time with his kids and grandson. In October Larry embarked upon what was to be his last deer hunting adventure. He successfully harvested his last buck, and then, a few days later, rejoined his favorite canine companion, Sassy, in the hunting grounds in the sky. Larry is survived by his mother Elaine, Aunt Doris Plaster, son Justin, daughter Kristin, and grandson Jax. A celebration of life is scheduled for November 9th, 2013 at 1 pm at the VFW Canteen, 1901 Elgin St, Oroville, CA. BBQ & No host bar provided. In lieu of flowers, please bring a potluck style side dish. Please feel free to dress comfortably, camouflage, 49ers, or SF Giants attire is welcome.
