PETER PANCHESSON Peter passed away January 16, 2014. Peter Paul Panchesson was born February 14, 1920 in Rochester, New York to Vasilli and Anna Panchyshyn. He attended The Holy Family Catholic Parochial School and Jefferson High. After graduation, Peter worked at Kodak Park Camera Works in Rochester, NY. Shortly after the Pearl Harbor attack, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He spent 4 years in the South Pacific. He was decorated and was honorably discharged in 1945. After the war, he met and married Marie Palma Barbato in Rochester on July 26, 1947. Peter and Marie gave birth to their first son David, while he was attending Sampson College in Geneva, New York. Peter then moved his family to the West Coast where he attended the University of California at Santa Barbara for 2 years. After moving again, to the Bay Area and attending University of California at Berkeley, he graduated with a BA Degree and a secondary teaching credential. Peter then moved his wife and young son to Lassen County, where he taught high school in Susanville and Herlong High Schools. While living in Herlong, Pete & Marie had 3 more children, Wayne, Michael, and Katherine. In 1962, Pete and his family moved to Chico where he finished his 30 year teaching career at Hamilton High School in Hamilton City, where he taught English, History, Driver's Training, and coached Baseball. Peter was named National School Teacher of the year in 1981. Peter was preceded in death by his wife Marie in 1987. He was one of seven brothers and sisters all deceased. Peter was an avid reader. He enjoyed gardening, long walks in Bidwell Park- marveling in the beauty of nature. He loved spending time with his family. Peter is survived by sons David (Cathy), Wayne (Anne), Michael; and daughter Katherine Moore-Rothman (Jeff) of Santa Rosa. Twelve grandchildren Cami (Camel) of Sacramento, Marie, Zoe & Joe Panchesson all of Napa, CA, Karina of Oroville, Kristina, Jeff, Carrie, Kyle and Spencer of Chico, Jerad Moore of Bali, and Natalie Moore also of Chico. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, David E., Sabastian, Blade, Kayla, Kelly, Kyle, Spencer and Nathaniel. And additionally two great-great-grandchildren Maddison and Donovan. Peter is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. At the families request, a private service will be held at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.
