ROBERT EUGENE SWENSON Obituary
ROBERT EUGENE SWENSON Robert Eugene Swenson died on Monday, January 21, 2013, in the loving care of his children and his wife, at his home in Chico, CA. Bob was born on August 8, 1928 in St. Paul, Minnesota, "under a wandering star", as his wife, Alice, loves to say. He grew up on the Minnesota-North Dakota border, graduated from high school in 1946 and spent three years in the U.S. Air Force. Bob attended the University of Minnesota, where he received a degree in geology in 1954. He enjoyed a 36 year career with Chevron Corporation, which took him to every corner of the globe. Bob was one of the few people who could boast about leaving footprints on every continent. The Swenson Family lived in Billings, MT, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and New Orleans, LA before settling in Danville, CA. They also spent several years living overseas in Copenhagen and in London, which provided them the opportunity to explore Europe. Upon his retirement, they returned to their home in Danville in 1990. They moved to Chico, CA in 2000. Bob was an avid backpacker and fisherman. His interests and talents included photography, gardening, carpentry, antiquing, and collecting fossils. Adults and children alike enjoyed his sharing of stories, artifacts and pictures from his many adventures. He earned the nickname "Indiana Swenson" at one of his granddaughter's elementary schools. Bob will be remembered by so many for his tales and for his tremendous knowledge, wisdom and wit. His constant ability to offer interesting and helpful information will be greatly missed. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Eleanor and John Swenson; and his daughter, Susan Swenson-West. He is survived by his wife, Alice Swenson and his children, Steven & Donna Swenson, Deborah & Carl Miller, Randy West, Paul Swenson, Tom Swenson, Janice & Andrew Moore, Karin & Andy Willhoit; his 13 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. A mass in celebration of Bob's life will be held in San Ramon, CA on Friday, February 1, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Donations in Bob's memory may be made to Peg Taylor Adult Daycare Center, www.pegtaylorcenter.org or Chico Community Food Locker PO Box 4746, 95927.
