THOMAS R. CASTILLO (TOM) Thomas R. Castillo (Tom) - Beloved brother and uncle, passed away on March 29, 2014. Tom was born December 7, 1931 in Knights Landing California to Ynez and Maria Castillo. Frankie Bartz was his companion for 25 years. He graduated from Hamilton High School in 1949 where he played football. Tom served in the US Navy from Nov. 21, 1951-Nov. 16, 1955. During his tour, he was stationed in San Diego at the age of 19 for boot camp, followed by Pearl Harbor where he was stationed on a ship for I½years. After a visit home, he flew from Midway Island, Hawaii to Tokyo Japan and was stationed on a ship for several days. When in Sasebo Japan, he saw his good friend Johnny Murgia from Chico, California who was also stationed in Japan. This was a story he loved to tell. He also visited Korea and the Philippines before returning to the United States. Tom attended Chico State upon his return. Tom lived in the Sacramento area. For the last four years he was brought to the Chico area to be closer to his family. Tom was preceded in death by his parents Ynez and Maria Castillo and his brothers, Jess, Ruben, Robert, and his sister Delores Stokes. Tom is survived by his brother Ynez Castillo, sisters, Connie Martinez, Rosie Lopez, Victoria Haro, Ramona Espinosa, Sally Perea and sister-in-laws, Mary, Florence and Molly. Tom is also survived by 28 nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held Fri., April 4th, 2014 at 4:00 p.m., and the Rosary will be at 7:00 p,m. at F.D. Sweet and Son, 825 A St., Orland , California. Mass of Christian burial will be held Sat., April 5th, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Dominic's Catholic Church, 822 A St. Orland, California.
