CHILLICOTHE: Arthur R. Cockrell, 94, of Chillicothe, died 6:05 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2014 at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born January 3, 1920, in Ross County, to the late Armsy "Dock" and Elizabeth Vandemark Cockrell. On October 31, 1949, he married the former Rose M. Palmer who died February 23, 2011.
Surviving are Ronald A. (Claudia) Cockrell, of Chillicothe, Rusty A. (Lorrie) Cockrell, of Chillicothe and Penny M. Elliott, of Waverly; grandchildren, Cam (Caroline) Cockrell, Rod (Ryann) Cockrell, Cory (Rachel) Elliott, Cassie Elliott and fiance, Seth Holbert and Kyle Cockrell; great grandchildren, Phoebe and Gage Cockrell; brothers, Kenny and Ed Cockrell, both of Chillicothe and Millie Griffith, of Cincinnati; numerous nieces and nephews; and special caregivers, Esther Baker and the staff of National Church Residence Hospice. He was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
Arthur served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He retired from WearEver.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Matt Stollings officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call at Ware's from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
