CHILLICOTHE: Jon F. Throckmorton, 73, of Chillicothe, passed away unexpectedly Sunday evening at 6:10pm in Adena Regional Medical Center.

He was born on June 26, 1939, to the late Fred C. and Virginia (Pickens) Throckmorton. On September 1, 1961, he married Barbara J. Frey, who preceded him in death on March 19, 2011.

Surviving is his daughter and son-in-law, Dawn (Throckmorton) and Danny Perdew; son, Chris Throckmorton; seven grandchildren: Michael, Scott (Jenny), Crystal, Adam, Travis Perdew, Rayen, and Abigail Throckmorton; seven great-grandchildren, all of Chillicothe; a brother, Jim Throckmorton, of Atlanta, GA; a sister-in-law, Barbara Hawkins; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Danny Throckmorton.

Jon graduated from Unioto high School, Class of 1957, where he was in the marching band. He joined the US Navy in 1957 for two years. Jon worked at the Omar Bakery. He began working for the Chillicothe Fire Dept. on February 16, 1965 as a firefighter, dispatcher and later a paramedic before retiring on April 9, 1989. Jon was one of the first paramedics in Ross Co., graduating in 1979. Among his many other jobs, Jon worked for Chillicothe Cabelvision for 35 years, a local piano company, Haller Funeral Home, a volunteer firefighter and EMT with Scioto Twp., drove a school bus for Unioto, and was a dispatcher for Medflight.

Jon enjoyed the Jerry Lewis telethon for over 35 years. He played in the Great Seal Band and played piano for the Fall Festival of Leaves Pageant. He was a member of the Chillicothe Baptist Church where he played the organ, bells, enjoyed singing in the choir, planning and singing in the Singing Christmas Tree, directing the choir, and whatever else was needed at the church. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids, most of whom enjoyed his love of fire trucks, Ohio St. football and Ohio St. basketball. He loved his wife of 50 years, adored his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. He will be truly loved and missed by many.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00pm Saturday at the Haller Funeral Home with Pastor John Burris officiating. Military graveside services, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort. Friends may call Friday from 5-8pm at Haller Funeral Home. His online guestbook is available at www.HallerFuneralHome.com
