CHILLICOTHE: Millie Mae Poling Notestone, 87, of Chillicothe passed from this life on Friday May 9, 2014 following an extended illness.
She was born June 2, 1926 in Laurelville Ohio, the daughter of Maynard Jesse and Martha Elizabeth (Stevens) Poling. On June 18, 1954 she married Homer E. Notestone who survives. Also surviving is her daughter Shirley Thomas and son Thomas (Susan) Notestone all of Chillicothe; her grandchildren Alicia (Daniel) Shoults of Columbus and Rex Notestone of Chillicothe; step grandchildren Tammy (Tim) Dearth of Chillicothe, Trina Thomas of Waverly, Tonya Goodman of Grove City; several step great grandchildren and great-great children, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother and sister-in-law Harold and Betty Poling; her sister and brother-in-law Berneda (Poling) and Harold Gray; and her son-in-law Tom J. Thomas.
Millie graduated from Laurelville High School Class of 1943. In 1956 she and Homer established County Sanitary Service, Inc. where she worked as the Secretary and Treasurer for 44 years. Millie was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the 3 M's Sunday school class which she faithfully attended until Alzheimer's disease prevented her from continuing. She was a former member and President of the Lady Elks Club, a volunteer at Adena Medical Center, a member of AARP, and a former bowler and sponsor in the Shawnettes Bowling League. Millie loved to travel and camp in their motor home. She valued the many friendships she made in the Southern Ohio Sam's #64 camping club.
Millie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a talented homemaker who was an amazing cook and lovingly crafted quilts and other handmade items for her family.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Monday at the Haller Funeral Home, Rev. Jack Norman officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call 11-1 Monday at Haller's. Her online memorial register is available at www.HallerFuneralHome.com.
