Richard C. Hougland

CHILLICOTHE: Richard C. Hougland, 83, of Chillicothe, passed from this life on Wednesday evening, July 30, 2014 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born March 25, 1931 in Chillicothe, the son of Chester V. and Audrey R. (Kisor) Hougland. On August 17, 1952 he married Gloria J. Cupp who preceded him in death in 1997.

Surviving are daughters, Debra (David) Michael, Kathryn (Roger) Young and Brenda Hougland, all of Chillicothe; an "adopted"daughter, Beth Dowler, Columbus, Ohio; a son, Richard A. Hougland, Chillicothe; grandchildren, Walter D. (Amanda) Miller, Heather (Keith) Evans and Holly Young; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Elizabeth Miller and Andrew and Matthew Evans; brothers, James R. (Betty) Hougland and Dannie (Pat) Hougland, all of Chillicothe. His parents, step-mothers, Geraldine Hougland and Edith Hougland, sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Don Hughes and brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Phyllis Hougland and Melvin and Francis Hougland preceded him in death.

Mr. Hougland was retired from Mead Paper with 38 years of service. A 1950 graduate of Chillicothe High School, Richard served in the U.S. Navy Reserve during the Korean War and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a member of BPOE #52, serving as the Veterans Chairman, the Conservation League, Eagles Aerie 600, and the Navy Petty Officers Club. He was an avid gardener for many years.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, August 4, 2014 in the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME with his brother, Rev. James Hougland officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Sunday.
