Dr. Adalberto J. Pinelo, 69, of Wilder, passed away on Saturday, September 7th at St. Elizabeth Hospice, Edgewood, KY. He was a Professor Emeritus of Political Science at Northern Kentucky University, an institution he had served since 1972. Dr. Pinelo was a native of Cuba and arrived in the United States as a political refugee at age 17 with neither money nor a command of English. Through hard work and perseverance, he pursued higher education, first at Kendall College and then at Lake Forest College, and eventually earned a doctorate in political science from the University of Massachusetts. In addition to teaching, he was a successful university administrator, published author, Fulbright scholar, and community volunteer. Dr. Pinelo was first and foremost a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adalberto A. & Josefa Pinelo. Dr. Pinelo is survived by his wife of 46 years, Katherine Pinelo of Wilder, KY; sons, Gregory (Susan) Pinelo of Bethesda, MD, and Christopher (Tasha) Pinelo of Ft. Thomas, KY; daughter, Marcella (Robert) Dale of Ft. Thomas, KY; brother, Armando (Polly) Pinelo of Florida, and four grandchildren: Robert & Emerson Dale and Antonio & Sophie Smith-Pinelo. Visitation 12:30-1:30 pm, with the funeral ceremony to follow at 1:30 pm, Wednesday, September 11th at Highland United Methodist Church, Ft. Thomas, KY. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate, KY. Memorials are suggested to the Michael J.
