Charles W., 85, beloved husband of Marian G. Hicklin married for 60 years, devoted father of Amy Hicklin, Plano, TX, and Guy (Susan) Hicklin, Eden Prairie, MN, and loving grandfather to Nathaniel and Benjamin Hicklin, and brother Edwin A. Hicklin, Wapello, IA, died on January 17, 2013. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Edwin R. and Irene Hicklin, a brother Dr. Martin D. Hicklin and sister Portia I. Hicklin. Charlie, an Army Air Force veteran, achieved a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa, and was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. He was an Art Director with the Container Corporation of America for over 30 years, and a member of the Cincinnati Art Directors Club. A prolific artist, he painted family portraits and designed personal Christmas cards from 1952-2012. He constructed a 5-foot red, white and blue birthday cake for his front porch celebrating the bicentennial and a giant pumpkin for many Halloweens. He also designed a poster for Mariemont, where he has lived since 1970. Charles and Marian enjoyed traveling, which included trips to six of the seven continents. His family loves the memories of Iowa Labor Day camping on the Mississippi River. He was an avid bridge player and an expert at old movie trivia, and enjoyed the many cultural offerings of Cincinnati. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his positive outlook through his health issues. Services will be held on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at the Gwen Mooney Funeral Home, in the Gwen Mooney Funeral Home-Elden Good Chapel, 2620 Erie Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45208. There will be a visitation at 2:30 PM, with memorial services at 4 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Edwin R. Hicklin Memorial Scholarship Fund, at Hills Bank & Trust, 590 W. Forevergreen Rd., North Liberty, IA, 52317.
