Dauton O. CARTER Obituary


Dauton O. Carter, 69, Lorton, VA, died Monday, August 26, 2013 at Inova Fairfax Hospital. Born in Covington, KY on December 27, 1943, he was the son of the late Dauton and Melvin Marie Carter. "Odie" graduated from Holmes High School in 1961. He received a BS in Management from Park College and an MBA from Chadwick University. Odie was the devoted husband of Kathie (Glins) Carter for 43 years and beloved father to his daughters, Shannon Murphy (Dan) and Erin Carter. He was a loving grandfather to Sarah Anne Murphy and Madison Anne Murphy. Odie is also survived by his brother, Steven Carter (Susan), and nieces Jennifer Reynolds (Steven) and Whitney Baker (Erich), and many other relatives and friends. In his early years, Odie was a passionate baseball player. After graduating from Holmes High School in 1961, he joined the Air Force, retiring 20 years later. He served with distinction in the Vietnam War where he spent much time and effort working with the orphans of the war-torn country. After serving with the Air Force, Odie had the opportunity to join the Department of Defense as a civilian working in the computer networking field, retiring in 2008. Odie had a passion for watching bull fighting, originating from an assignment in Spain. He was an avid Kentucky Wildcat and NASCAR fan. Odie was also a proud member of the Honorable Order of the Kentucky Colonels. The family will receive friends Thursday, September 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge, VA, with a memorial service at 7 p.m. and he will be interred at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
