Don M. Ball, 88, of Naples, FL, formerly of Cincinnati, OH passed away peacefully on September 5, 2013. Dr. Ball was born in Cincinnati, OH on September 17, 1924 to the late Dr. Edward L. Sr. and Freda (Dunn) Ball. Don married his sweetheart, Esther Gossett, on June 14, 1947 in Cincinnati. She will miss him dearly. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather. Don is survived by his beloved wife, his children, Donna (Bill) Stiess of Naples, FL and James (Marjorie) Ball of Reno, NV; his granddaughter, Heather (Justin) Land; his grandsons, Bob and Don Stiess of Naples, FL, Robinson Ball of Victoria, TX and James Parker Ball of Reno, NV: his great-grandchildren Abby and Eli Land; Jenna and Anna Stiess. Dr. Ball is also survived by his brother, Dr. Edward L. Ball, Jr. and his niece, Marty (Joseph) White of Cincinnati, OH; his nephew Mark (Cheryl) Ball of Fort Collins, CO and his loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and many special friends. Dr. Ball went to Clifton School and Hughes High School where he participated in many sports. He did his pre-dental studies at the University of Cincinnati and MIT and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He earned his DDS at The Ohio State University in 1948 and was a member of Psi Omega fraternity. During these years, he served in the US Navy and returned to Great Lakes during the Korean War to become the first full time periodontist in the US Navy. He retired as a Lieutenant Commander. Dr. Ball then returned to Cincinnati to practice with his father and brother in the first dental office in the U.S. to have three periodontists in one office. Dr. Ball was the founder of the Dental Hygiene Program at the Blue Ash College of University of Cincinnati. He was also the president of the Cincinnati Dental Society, T.I. Way Dental Forum and the Ohio Academy of Dental Practice Administration. Don was also the president and co-founder of the Queen City Dental Seminar, a Fellow in the American College of Dentists, a delegate to the Ohio State Dental and the American Dental Associations and served on the boards of the American Academy of Dental Practice and the Cincinnati Travel Club. He was a proud Republican. Don loved sports and as a member of Ryland Lakes Country Club for over 50 years, won numerous golf trophies. Don was a smiling man with a big heart. His passions were his family, his country and sports. A memorial service will be held on October 19th at 11am at the Linwood Baptist Church, 4808 Eastern Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45208.
