E. Clifford CRANE Obituary


E. Clifford, 90, of Westlake, Ohio and formerly of Cincinnati passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Ames Family Hospice House, Westlake surrounded by family. Mr. Crane was born July 26, 1923 in Dayton, OH. He served as a commissioned Ensign in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre from 1943-1946. He received his BSME from Purdue University and his BS Business Administration from the University of Cincinnati. Mr. Crane served as Vice President and Comptroller of the Cincinnati Transit Company from 1954-1973 and as Secretary Treasurer of American Controlled Industries from 1974 until his retirement in 1987. Cliff was a 60 year member of Northminster Presbyterian Church and served on its Board of Trustees, a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity (University of Cincinnati), and on the Board of Directors with Unity Loan and Building. He enjoyed golfing with friends, swimming, extensive travel, music of all kinds and especially spending time with his children and grandchildren. Cliff was known for his kindness, wit and good humor, all of which he maintained until his last day. Mr. Crane is survived by two daughters, Melissa Abbott (Robert) of Cincinnati and Laurie Graham (Randy) of Bay Village, Ohio; three grandchildren, Amy Graham (Bennett), Tracy Kabealo (Tony) and Jeffrey Crane Graham; great grandchildren Eliana Catherine and one to be born in August ; five dedicated step children, a brother, Dr. George William Crane, Jr. of Durham, North Carolina and his two children G. William Crane III and Susan C. DeLoatche. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maralou Juday Crane in 1993, his second wife Gloria "Litta" Atzel Crane in 2010 and his parents, George William Crane and Marguerite Eblen Crane. Private graveside services will be held at Arlington Memorial Gardens in Cincinnati where military honors will be observed. A memorial service will be held at the Northminster Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati on Saturday May 31 at 2:00. Rev. Nancy Ross-Zimmerman will officiate.
