Eugene Simmons, 83, of Fort Thomas, passed away on June 9, 2014. He retired in 1992 after 47 years with The Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company, now Duke Energy. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean Conflict. A born engineer, Gene had numerous hobbies and was a tireless and passionate gardener and accomplished baker. He was a dedicated volunteer at the Campbell County Extension Office where he worked closely with good friend, Ron Haigis, to build the Center's gardens. He volunteered for Paul Busse's Applied Imagination to help build beautiful installations displayed at the Cincinnati Flower Show. He leaves behind a beloved family, including his wife of 51 years, Mae (neé Cox) of Fort Thomas, Ky., his daughter, Amy Neyer (Betsy Neyer) of Cincinnati, OH, his son, Eric Simmons of Fort Thomas, Ky. and two grandchildren, Justine and Ava Neyer, whom he adored. He is also survived by brothers Harold and Doug Simmons along with a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers John, Bill and Jim Simmons and sisters Evelyn Hoffman and Carolyn Cryer. Visitation will be Friday, June 13, 9 to 11 a.m. at the Muehlenkamp-Erschell Fort Thomas Funeral Home followed by Funeral Ceremony at 11 a.m. Burial will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate, Kentucky.
