Malcolm Neil. Beloved husband of Lori Wigor McElroy. Devoted father of Lauren Gooding McElroy and Ansley Fry McElroy. Dear brother of Nancy Folger and the late Barbara McElroy. Son of the late Camilla Fry and Neil H. McElroy, Secretary of Defense under Dwight Eisenhower and Chairman of Procter and Gamble Co. Malcolm was born on August 16, 1943. He attended the Lotspeich School and graduated from St. Albans School in Washington, D.C. After graduation from Harvard he received a master's degree in business from Northwestern University. He served in the US Army in Vietnam from 1965 to 1966 and worked for Morgan Gauranty Trust in New York before returning to Cincinnati. Malcolm shared the passion to continue the family commitment to education. In 1955, Neil McElroy chaired the White house conference on education. This established many guidelines still in effect today. Long Branch Farm, a 600 acre farm owned by the family and loved dearly by Malcolm was gifted to the Cincinnati Nature Center. Malcolm along with his family transferred Long Branch Farm to the Cincinnati Nature Center to ensure and perpetuate the family commitment to nature education. Malcolm met Lori on a blind date in 1986 and they were married on October 15, 1988. They traveled often and spent summers in Maine. In 1996 twin daughters, Lauren and Ansley were born which changed his life forever. He was a loving and doting father, known for his boisterous laugh and quick wit. During this time Malcolm started having serious health issues which plagued him the rest of his life. He fought a heroic fight. Malcolm loved sports and electronic gadgets long before they were fashionable. He was on the board of Easy Riders, the Harvard Club of Cincinnati and a member of the Harvard Schools Committee. He also was a board member of the Law Enforcement Assistance Foundation and NABAMA Foundation. He is a member of the Indian Hill Episcopal-Presbyterian Church. He died on August 29 of cancer.
