Marjorie Roselle. Marjorie "Marj" Decker died peacefully on June 12, 2014 in Ann Arbor, Michigan at the age of 92. Marj was born in Lyons, New York on November 19, 1921 to Kate and Ezra Heit. She spent her childhood on her family's 600-acre farm and her life was greatly enriched by her proximity to her four aunts, all school teachers. Marj graduated from Clyde High School at the age of 15 and graduated from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York in 1943 with a degree in journalism. She immediately started as a reporter for The Syracuse Post Standard. Marj married James Harvey Decker on December 14, 1946. Their son Stuart was born in 1950 and daughter Janet in 1952. After several moves acros the country, the Deckers settled in Wyoming, Ohio in 1965 where they spent the next 44 years. Marj was an avid reader with a love for libraries and community service. She reentered the workforce in 1968 in the Volunteer Services Department at Longview State Hospital/Lewis Center and retired after 30 years of dedicated service to the patients. Her granddaughters all got a bit and the best of her: they all have a strong love of learning, reading and the outdoors. Kaly, is an organic farmer; Ariann, an elementary school teacher; Bella working towards her MSW; and Nessy, a sophomore in college, has been asked to tutor freshman students next year. Marj was preceded in death by her husband Jim, her parents and siblings, and her son-in-law, Craig Hess. She is survived by her son Stuart and his wife Eleanor (Leah) of Michigan and their two daughters, and her daughter Janet and her husband Jeff of Montana and their two daughters. A graveside service will be held for Marj on June 21, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Spring Grove Cemetery, 4521 Spring Grove Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45232. Family and friends will meet at the Gwen Mooney Funeral Home, 4389 Spring Grove Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45223 (513-853-1035) 30 minutes prior to leaving for the gravesite.
