Melissa CANTONI OLONA Obituary

CANTONI OLONA

Melissa, age 59, March 28, 2013, Aptos, CA. I would like to be remembered for my stunning beauty, astute intellect, Olympic caliber swimming and great contributions to mankind. However, I will settle for being remembered as a person having had a great sense of humor, a positive attitude and good manners. I had a wonderful childhood and a fantastic life, filled with exotic travel, several creative careers and happy memories created with a loving husband, parents, sisters, extended family and friends. I've had it all and have had the joy of sharing it with people who truly loved me. What more is there? Thank you, Melissa. Born, December 7, 1954, Melissa Cantoni Olona died March 28, 2013. She is survived by her husband Robert Olona of Aptos, California, to whom she was married for 28 years. She is also survived by her parents Robert and Jane Cantoni of Lebanon, her sisters Jennifer Arnzen (Gary) and Cyndy Braun (Greg) and nephew Charlie Braun all of Cincinnati. Melissa was a graduate of Lebanon High School and The Ohio State University. At Melissa's request, the family will remember her privately. In lieu of flowers, food etc., please make monetary donations to: Mary Jo Cropper Family Center for Breast Care at: 10494 Montgomery Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45242. 513-865-1344.

Dear Missy,

Thank you for our simple, but beautiful succulent garden that greets everyone who enters our home and which was inspired by your many cuttings, words of encouragement and “how to books” … just in case ?.

Thank you for your kindness, generosity and attention to detail with the numerous, custom-wrapped, specially delivered (even when you were out of town, wow, thanks Bob) exquisite gifts that you showered Antonella with on every occasion … especially your very own doll collection which brought tears to our eyes, joy to her heart and which we'll cherish always. In addition, you always managed to delight her with treasured trinkets pulled from your purse whenever we met for our memorable dinners.

Thank you Missy for making the time and finding the strength to share those dinners with Vicky, Antonella and I, especially since you and Bob were quietly dealing with so much, so much of the time, yet you still managed to share your stories, listen to and laugh with us, even though at times you hardly ate a bite. We felt honored.

Thank you Missy for inspiring us with your zest for life, quite courage, determination, optimism and humor. Thank you for all the love, laughs, honesty … for being our dear friend … and for being “you”. We miss, appreciate and will always remember you for all these things and so, so much more!

Love Always,
Michael, Vicky and Antonella

We have lost a creative and loving woman. Melissa inspired us in so many ways. When I look at the plants around my yard, I know that it is Melissa that taught me how to grow them. For this and many things I will be always grateful to her. We will miss her. ~Dottie and Chuck Bella

Missy's life is an inspiring story of love...love of her soulmate Bob and her family, Mr. & Mrs. Cantoni , her sisters Jenny & Cyndy & their family's as well. An inspiring story of battling the demon Cancer and as the warrior Missy was, fighting that demon to the end. And as Missy left us on this Earth, doing so with immense dignity and Love! What an inspiring legacy. God Bless you Missy, Bob and The Cantoni's. my prayer's and thought are with you.

Melissa had real spirit and a joy for life. Over the years we shared many experiences together along with her husband Bob. Her undaunted courage in her battle with cancer was not surprising being that she approach every endeavor with vigor and joy. I remember the time she blew out her knee skiing and never said a word as she continued to traverse the trails as if nothing happened. On another occasion she kayaked swift water currents without hesitation bounding in joy. We enjoyed many a great meals and conversation always punctuated by her sharp wit and humor. She was a barrel of fun and joy during our trips to Morocco, Spain, Hawaii and the countless outdoor escapades in the American West. Thanks for the thoughtful gifts, meals and the love you gave to Bob

Melissa was married to my brother. I remember when they met and fell in love.....it was a marriage made in Heaven. She taught me so much without even knowing it. One Thanksgiving I remember they put Melissa and I in charge of the gravy.....let's just say it was the worst gravy ever, and was never given that task again. All I had to do was say the word "gravy" and we would laugh and laugh! Melissa loved life like no other.....she truly is my Hero. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family. You did good, Mr. & Mrs. Cantoni.
