Samuel Sanford Sheffield, Jr. of Cincinnati, aged 86 died on March 12, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Baker Sheffield, his sons: Samuel S. Sheffield III, William Carmichael Sheffield, Charles Thorne Sheffield, his daughter, Anne Sheffield Vanoy, and grandchildren, Scott Sheffield, David Sheffield, Michael Vanoy, and Rob Sheffield. Sam was a veteran of the US Navy in World War II and served on The Floyds Bay, a sea plane tender in the Pacific Ocean. Sam has impacted many lives. He was a wood-turner, photographer, artist, and art teacher. He taught art at Doherty School of the Seven Hills School. A great interest of his was advising the yearbook. In 1970, the school honored him with a membership to the Cum Laude Society for his excellence in mentoring his students in art classes and starting the school's Outdoor Program that traveled throughout the United States, hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, kayaking, dog-sledding, and mountain-climbing. A Visitation will be held at Norman Chapel in Spring Grove Cemetery Monday March 17th from 9:00-10:00 am with funeral service to follow.
