Thomas E. BISHOP Obituary


Thomas E. Bishop, age 95, a former FBI official and resident of Rancho Bernardo, San Diego, CA, died on July 28, 2013 of pneumonia. Mr. Bishop, a native of Cincinnati, OH, was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and the Chase College of Law. He was a member of the Ohio Bar. Entering the FBI as a Special Agent in 1941, he served in numerous FBI offices in the United State, and 3 ½ years on foreign assignments during World War II. Included in his domestic assignments were Special agent in Charge of offices in San Antonio, TX; San Diego, CA; San Juan, PR and Richmond, VA. After his transfer to FBI Headquarters Washington, D.C., in 1966, he was named as Assistant Director in 1967 and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1973. After his retirement and subsequent relocation to San Diego in 1975, Mr. Bishop, an excellent golfer, was very active in Southern California golfing circles. A member of the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo, he served as president in 1979. He was also a member of the Rules Committee of the Southern California Professional Golfers Association, and a charter member of the San Diego County Amateur Golf Tournament Committee. An expert on the Rules of Golf, he served as Rules Official at innumerable professional and amateur golf tournaments throughout California. He was preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, Carleen Stephens Bishop, and his second wife of 38 years, Jean Boozier Bishop. He is survived by his son Kevin (Vivian), of San Diego; daughter Patricia, of Cincinnati; step-children Gilbert (Susan), of California; Don (Dorothy), of Virginia; Deborah (Stormy), of Florida; Gregory, of California; Bradley, of Utah; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
