Thomas Edwin, a resident of Terrace Park, Ohio, passed away April 23, 2014, at the age of 74. He was a successful business executive, but more importantly he was devoted to his faith, his family and his community. Mr. Petry was born November 20, 1939, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Edwin Nicholas and Leonora (Zimpelman) Petry. He attended Western Hills High School and the University of Cincinnati and received a master's degree in business administration from Harvard University. Mr. Petry played a prominent role in the Cincinnati business community for many years. From 1982 to 1998, he served as president, chief executive officer and chairman of Eagle-Picher Industries. Over the years, he served on many corporate boards of directors, including Cinergy, U.S. Bancorp, Union Central Life Insurance Company and the William Powell Company. He devoted time to several nonprofit boards of directors, including Christ Hospital, the Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati, the Elizabeth Gamble Deaconess Home Association, the Cincinnati Business Committee's Cincinnati Public School Task Force, and the Dan Beard Council of the Boy Scouts of America. In 1994, he received a distinguished service award from the UC College of Business. Mr. Petry is survived by his wife, Mary Helen Petry; sons Thomas (Mandi), Stephen, Daniel (Jennifer) and Michael (Ashley); and nine grandchildren: Inga, Marisol, Andrei, Jackson, Elena, Alex, Sam, Palmer and Elissa. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Susan Lee Petry. The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff at Twin Lakes for their loving care of Mr. Petry during the past five years. A memorial mass will be held at noon Monday at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Milford, Ohio.
