William F. Stern of Houston, Texas. Son of Mary S. and the late Joseph D. Stern, Jr., brother of Dr. Peter J. Stern (Sandra) of Cincinnati, Ohio, sister of Peggy S. Graeter (Dr. James) of Potomac, MD. Uncle of six nieces and nephews, five great nieces and nephews and long time friend Elizabeth Glassman, passed away March 1, 2013, age 66, after a brief illness. A cum laude graduate of Harvard College, he earned a Master's Degree of Architecture at the Harvard School of Design. He began his career at the office of Edward L. Barnes in New York City and moved to Houston in 1976 where he founded William F. Stern and Associates and in 1992, he and longtime associate, David Bucek formed Stern and Bucek Architects. A dedicated teacher, he was Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Houston for nearly three decades. He served on the Board of Trustees of the Menil Collection in Houston and on the Collections Committee of the Harvard Art Museum. As a member of the Board of the Rice Design Alliance, he was a founding member of its publication "Cite" for which he received The Texas Society of Architects John G. Flowers award for Excellence in Architectural Journalism. More recently The American Institute of Architects awarded him its Lifetime Achievement Award.
