Asheville, NC - Charles Lee Brewer, 86, passed away on January 6th 2014.

Fondly known as "Charlie", he was born in Johnson City, Tenn. to the late Lee Roy and Honolulu Brewer.

Charlie served in the Navy during WWII on the U.S.S Copahee. Afterwards he and his former wife, Jean Brewer, settled in Asheville, NC. He worked as an accountant and in accounting system sales. He formed the company, Customized Business Machines and was sole proprietor for 40 years. He retired at age 82.

During his years in business, he was an officer in the Toast Masters Club and was very involved with the Jewish community.

He also published the Pictorial History of the U.S.S. Copahee C.V.E. 12 and initiated many of the reunions of former shipmates.

Charlie is survived by his only son, Jonathan "Jake" Brewer and his wife, Sharon Jean Brewer and two granddaughters, Lauren Brewer of Stow, MA and Elizabeth Brewer of the home. Other survivors include his nieces Cissy Eversole, Aleisha Taylor and her daughter, Celeste Taylor of Johnson City, Tenn. and Lesanna Patterson of Chattanooga, Tenn. He is survived by two nephews, Lewis and Lacy Holley and a cousin, Ross Price of Johnson City, Tenn.

Visitation will be held at the Groce Funeral Home Tunnel Road location at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, Jan 9th followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held at the Andrew Johnson Military facility in Greenville, Tenn at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10th.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Congregation Beth Ha-Tephila, Rabbi Discretionary Fund, 43 N. Liberty St., Asheville, NC 28801.
