Rickman
Asheville - Charles Edward Rickman, 70, died Thursday, June 21, 2012.
A native of Buncombe Co., he was a son of the late Andrew and Flora Pearl Powell Rickman. He was also preceded in death by brothers Claude, Harold, and Carroll Rickman, and sister Edna Lyle.
Mr. Rickman attended Asheville High until the 10th grade, and then graduated from Marion High School, and was a graduate of Marion College (now Wesleyan University) in Marion, Indiana. He was an elementary school teacher for 43 years, teaching in Indiana, Wisconsin, and Texas. He was a member of the Texas Teacher Retirement Association, Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity, and West Asheville Baptist Church.
Opera was his favorite music. He enjoyed history, the symphony, reading, loved to travel, and he especially loved his grandchildren.
He is survived by special friend and former spouse, Dolores Rickman; a daughter, Beverly Jo Linsley and her partner, Donald Ewing, of Florida; a son, Stuart Robert Rickman and his wife, Becky, of Ohio; grandchildren James Neil Linsley and his wife, Nichole, of Virginia, Allison and Beth Rickman, of Ohio; great-grandchildren Tyler, Haylie, and Andy, of Virginia; a sister, Helen Tweed, of Asheville; brothers Donald Rickman and his wife, Sandra, of Asheville, and Syd Rickman and his wife, Mamie, of Indiana; sisters-in-law Eveyln Rickman of SC, Earline Rickman of NC, and Faye B. Rickman of Weaverville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012, in the Patton Avenue Chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Stan Welch officiating.
