Gloria Hall Obituary
Gloria Jean Hall

Burnsville - Gloria Jean Hall, age 71, died at her home, surrounded by family, in Burnsville, NC on May 2, 2014. After heroically surviving breast cancer two years ago, she recently learned of its return.

Gloria was born in Northfield, VT on August 21, 1942, the oldest daughter of Kenneth Cook, Sr., and Alberta Paye Cook. At the age of 14, she moved with her parents and siblings from Gove Hill in Thetford Center, VT to Portland, CT.

Gloria met the love of her life, Charles Hall, 53 years ago in Middletown, CT. They married in 1963 and their love for one another has shined for 51 years of marriage.

In 1965, their family became three with the birth of their daughter, Rhonda Marie Hall. Beyond Gloria and Rhonda's mother-daughter bond, they enriched each other's live as best friends. In 1988, they were blessed with a granddaughter, Stephanie Jean Nye, who Gloria adored and cherished beyond words. In 1998, she once again opened her heart, becoming a surrogate grandmother to Stephanie's half-sister, Krysten Nye.

Gloria's passion was showering unconditional love on Charlie, Rhonda Stephanie, Krysten and those who were dear to her.

Throughout her life, especially during her life in the country, she loved nature, the birds, the flowers and the breathtaking view of "her mountains." She was drawn to animals and adored her little dog, Buttercup, and the neighbor's dog, Eddie, who she claimed ownership of.

She is survived by Charles of Burnsville, Rhonda and husband, Jim Barone of Middletown, CT, Stephanie of Boston, MA and Krysten of East Hampton, CT. Also, siblings, Roderick Cook of Bradford, VT and Goldie Jamieson of Silver Springs FL. Gloria is also survived by Donna Lee Cook, a special niece with whom she shared a special bond, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents and brothers, Kenneth, Jr. and Richard.

The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 AM, Monday, May 5, 2014 at Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. A Mass will be held at 11:30 AM, Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 20 Summit Street in Burnsville. Burial will be in the Academy Hill Cemetery. There will be a reception following at Bowditch Union Church Fellowship Hall, 420 Rice Road in Burnsville.

Contributions, in her memory, may be made to Hospice of Yancey County, 856 Georges Fork Road, Burnsville, NC 28714.
