Weaverville - J.G. Littrell, 77, died Sunday, July 14, 2013, at the Brian Center of Weaverville.
A son of the late Ted and Mollie Shook Littrell, he was also preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Anita McGaha Littrell, one brother, and three sisters.
Mr. Littrell was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Korea. He worked as a carpenter. He was a diehard Duke fan, and was an accomplished athlete in bowling, horseshoes, softball, and he enjoyed fox hunting. He attended Boyd's Chapel Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Joy Littrell; son Richard Littrell; daughter Shirley Littrell; sister Brenda Hudgins; brothers Robert and Roger Littrell; step-children Marsha Goins and husband Jimmie, and Greg Fisher and wife Renee; 4 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; and 12 step-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Jason Littrell officiating.
His family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave, and after the service at the home of Traci Clement, 9 Karen Pl., Asheville.
The family wishes to express special thanks to the nursing staff of the 600 Hall at the Brian Center.
