West Asheville - James William "Jim" Burke, Jr., 76, of 65 Hubbard Avenue, went to be with his Lord Friday, April 26, 2013.
A native of Prince George's County, Maryland he had resided in Buncombe County since October, 1976. He was a former machinist with Eaton Corp. and had proudly served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Burke was a son of the late James William Burke and Blasta Amelia Tacek Burke. He was also preceded in death by his son, James Edward Burke.
Surviving are his wife, Stella Maude Ward Burke of the home; daughters, Anita Marie Wilder of Alexander and Rhonda Lynn Beasley of Weaverville; step son, Donald Augustus Ellege of Black Mountain; sisters: Lila McCutcheon, Cheryl Wilkerson, Mary Dodson, and Amelia Hoff; brothers: Alan Burke, Ronald Burke, and Roger Burke; 6 grandchildren, 2 step grandsons, a number of great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 7 PM Monday, April 29, 2013 at Leicester Baptist Church, Tony Lunsford Rd., with Rev. Chad Ellege officiating.
