Joan A. Hyatt

Swannanoa - Joan A. Hyatt, 74, of Swannanoa, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014.

Mrs. Hyatt was born February 20, 1940 to the late Joseph Burgin and Josephine Lucille Gilliam Allison.

Joan was a school teacher for 28 years at Black Mountain Primary School. She then became the Activity Director at the McCune Center and after retirement she volunteered there. Joan was a member of Black Mountain United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her step-father, Raynous Wilson.

Joan is survived by her husband of 49 years, Harold Hyatt; children, Sandra Stafford, Diane Proctor (Richard), and Eric Hyatt (Angela); sisters, Reta Lovine Allison Bishop and Mary Jo Allison Stone; grandchildren, Johnathan and James Saunders, Christine Proctor, Hannah and Matthew Hyatt, and Benjamin Cleveland (Brittany); and great grandchildren, Micheal and Emmaleigh Cleveland.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Black Mountain United Methodist Church with Reverend Michael Macdonald officiating. Burial will follow in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Black Mountain United Methodist Church, PO Box 517, Black Mountain, NC 28711.
