Asheville - Hurman Kennith Culbreth, 87, of Asheville, passed away surrounded by his family on the evening of August 28, 2014. He was born in Columbus, NC and lived in the Asheville area for most of his life.
Mr. Culbreth was the son of Mattie Rayburn Culbreth and Furman Culbreth. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Margaret Garland Culbreth and his precious grandson, Andrew John Lewis, who passed away suddenly in 2006 at age 15.
Ken served in the United States Navy in Guam during World War II. He retired from the United States Postal Service as a Postal Clerk and began a career as a Real Estate Broker. He was the author of four books about his life experiences. He was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church.
Mr. Culbreth is survived by his daughter, Brenda Culbreth Lewis and her husband, Samuel Lewis; his grandchildren and their families: David and his wife, Leslie and their children, Morgan, Camden and Adelyn; Aleica and her husband, Brian their and children, Savannah and Mallory; James and his wife, Melissa their and children, John Parker and Bentley; Samantha and her husband Greg and their daughter Charlotte, and youngest grandson, Elisha Lewis. He is also survived by his brother, Jack Culbreth and his wife Jo of Raleigh, NC along with many other family members.
A private graveside service will be held at Lewis Memorial Park later this week. Donations may be made to Beaverdam Baptist Church Youth Fund, 399 Beaverdam Rd. Asheville, NC 28804.
