Asheville - Niles Fraser Schuh, Jr., 90, of Asheville, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A memorial service was held at the Solace Center Chapel on Saturday, October 5th.
A native of Miami, Mr. Schuh graduated from the University of Florida after serving in the US Marine Corps during World War II. He began his career in electrical engineering at Westinghouse in Lima, OH where he worked in the Space Technology-Aerospace Electrical Division until 1967. He then moved to Panama City, FL to join the Naval Coastal Systems Laboratory. Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Schuh was awarded numerous patents and was a thought leader in solar cell technology. He was also a widely published scholar and historian, as well as an avid philatelist.
Mr. Schuh is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen Pappas Schuh, his children, Niles Fraser Schuh, III and his wife, Kim, of Hallandale, FL, Deborah Schuh Charlton and her husband, Dave, and Robin Lee Schuh, all from Asheville, his brother, Robert P. Schuh and his wife, Molly, of St. Augustine, FL, as well as 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Niles was also the father of Rebecca Lynn Schuh, deceased.
