Phoenix, AZ - Patricia Louise Wilkie Keene, 64, died in Phoenix, Arizona on July 11, 2013 after a brief illness. The daughter of the late William Howard and Jessie Higdon Wilkie, she was born on September 20, 1948 in Biltmore, North Carolina. She grew up in Skyland, North Carolina and graduated with honors from T. C. Roberson High School. She earned a B. A. in Fine Art and Art History from Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, Georgia.
On October 9, 1971, in Atlanta, she was married to William Lamar Keene. Surviving are a son, William Logan Keene and his wife, Melinda Soll Keene, of Raleigh, North Carolina; a sister, Barbara Wilkie Tedford and husband, Sidney Hamilton Tedford, of Elkins, West Virginia; and a brother, William Howard Wilkie and wife, Ann Hunter Wilkie, of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina. Also surviving are two nephews, William Keats Wilkie of Williamsburg, Virginia; and Timothy Browning Wilkie of Raleigh, North Carolina.
She was a talented designer of jewelry made of sterling silver, semiprecious stones, and other natural elements. She was also skilled in fiber arts, designing and marketing her counted cross stitch designs and participating in rug hooking workshops. She had taken courses in art, graphic design, business, and writing at Kennesaw State and Emory Universities in Georgia. At the time of her death she was working for Nordstrom Rack in Phoenix. She was a licensed realtor and had been affiliated with Sotheby's International Realty in Carefree, Arizona.
She supported such causes as animal welfare and enjoyed her Maine Coon cats. She belonged to several organizations, including the Higdon Family Association, Inc. and the John Hart Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
