Poteat, Sr.

Marion - Ray Ervin Poteat, Sr., age 92, of Marion, passed away Monday, October 7, 2013 at his residence. His loving family was by his side. A native of McDowell County, NC, he was born September 22, 1921 and was the son of the late Clarence and Alice Lewis Poteat. Ray was a supervisor at Lambeth Lumber Company which later became Bradley Lumber from which he retired. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in WW II where he received a Bronze Star. Mr. Poteat loved to watch sports, especially the Braves, but most of all, he loved his family and will be remembered as a great father, grandfather and brother.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Madge L. Poteat; one son, Clarence Allen Poteat; one daughter, Lillian Gail Poteat; one brother, Monyon H. Poteat and one sister, Victoria P. Pool.

Ray is survived by one son, Ray Ervin Poteat, Jr. of Marion; one brother, Robert D. Poteat of Marion; one sister, Charlotte P. Hughes of Marion and two grandchildren, Chad Ray Poteat and Renee Michelle Poteat, both of Charlotte.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Gentry officiating. Interment will follow at Liberty Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Army. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
