Black Mountain - Roderick Alexander MacRae, 91, of Black Mountain, passed away Tuesday, March 04, 2014 at Charles George VA Medical Center.

Mr. MacRae was born September 23, 1922 in Nova Scotia, Canada. He was a Merchant Seaman veteran of the US Coast Guard serving in WWII and survived D-Day. Mr. MacRae was a member of First Christian Church in Black Mountain.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Murdock Alexander and Ida Marie Hollis MacRae and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Frances Lillian Arrowood MacRae of the home; daughters, Debra Cross (David) of Weaverville and Wendy Stokes (Ron) of Candler; son, Ronnie MacRae (Marcia) of Georgia; sister, Juanita Pippy of Boston, MA; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of life service will be held Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 2:00 pm at First Christian Church with Pastor Joe Friddle officiating.

A private burial will be held in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.

The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to Kiwanna Fox for all her kindness and service to the family.
