Leicester - William Wayne Duckett, 79, of Leicester, died on Friday, July 11, 2014, at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals.
A native of Buncombe Co., Mr. Duckett was a son of the late William Fulmer and Vinnie Wells Duckett.
A strong advocate of land conservancy, Mr. Duckett worked as a cattle and tobacco farmer, and loved it every day. He was also a member of Big Sandy United Methodist Church for over 30 years, and served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Mr. Duckett is survived by his wife, Mabel Webb Duckett; sons, Steve Duckett and wife Erin McCord Duckett, and Kevin Duckett; sisters, Myrtle Duckett and Amy Pratt; and granddaughter, Jessica C. Duckett.
A funeral service for Mr. Duckett will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at Big Sandy United Methodist Church with the Revs. Larry Melton, Ed Worley, and Pastor Fred Sibley officiating. Interment will follow in the church's cemetery.
His family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave.
Mr. Duckett's family wishes to express their special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals for their excellent care of Mr. Duckett.
