On Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, Katie Lloyd McGuire died unexpectedly at home in Baltimore, Md.

Born March 10, 1951, in Wilkes-Barre, she was the cherished daughter of the late Harry and Mildred Lloyd; beloved wife of the late Dan P. McGuire; devoted mother of Casey A. DellaVecchia and her husband, Jared, and Elizabeth R. McGuire; dear sister of Michael, David, Millie and Richard Lloyd; and loving grandmother of Ethan, Dallas, Max and newborn Sylvia Rose. She is also survived by many extended family members and friends who loved and respected her deeply.

Katie graduated in 1969 from St. Nicholas High School, Wilkes-Barre. She graduated from Penn State University in 1973 with a degree in early child development and education.

Katie resided in Maryland with her family for the past 40 years. For most of her working career she served as the patient service director for in Maryland and Delaware. Through her dedication and unconditional love in this position she touched the lives of many clients and their families.

Relatives and friends may gather at Schimunek Funeral Home Inc., 9705 Belair Road, Nottingham, MD 21236, for a receiving of friends from 10 a.m. to noon Monday. A memorial service will follow at noon at the funeral home.
