James G. Hoffman Sr., 46, of East Main Street, Glen Lyon, died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

He was born Dec. 21, 1966 in Wilkes- Barre, the son of the late George and Mary Jane (Goldsworthy) Hoffman. He was raised in the Conyngham Valley and was a graduate of the West Hazleton High School, Class of 1985. James attained his paramedic certificate from Luzerne County Community College in 1994. He also received numerous certifications in EMS and firefighting.

He was employed as a paramedic by the Berwick Area Ambulance for the past six years and Trans Med Ambulance. He was the current fire chief of Newport Township for the past 3½ years and had been a firefighter and EMS, dedicating more than 30 years of service to the communities.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. His true passion was to help others in their time of need.

Surviving are his wife of 22 years, the former Roseanne Samulevich, at home; sons, James F. Hoffman Jr. and his fiancee, Tiffany Davis, Glen Lyon; and David G. Hoffman, at home.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 211 W. Main St., Glen Lyon, with a Blessing service officiated by the Rev. Louis Kaminski of Holy Spirit Parish, Glen Lyon. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday or until the time of service. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to his family at the funeral home.
