John D. Amos, 83, of Shavertown died Tuesday, June 17, 2014, in the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Township.

He was born in Edwardsville, son of the late David and Nellie Pryor Amos.

John last worked for Social Security, and had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a former member of American Legion Post 655, Larksville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Betty Anne Roberts; son, John G. Amos; and two grandchildren.

John is survived by his daughters, Wendy Daley and husband, Albert, Tunkhannock; and Vanessa Kammerer, Shavertown; son, William Amos and wife Lynda, Scranton; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and brother, Greg Amos, Forty Fort.

The funeral will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
