Joseph M. Machinist, 75, passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at Advocate Condell Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 15, 1936, in Wilkes-Barre and has lived in Libertyville, Ill., for the past 43 years.

Joe was a graduate of King's College, Wilkes-Barre, St. John's University, Jamaica, N.Y., and received his doctorate from Purdue University.

He was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Libertyville, Ill., and was a biochemist for Abbott Laboratories from 1969 to 2002.

Surviving are his daughters, Karen (Andrew) Schmidt, Grayslake, Ill.; Katherine (Richard) Dierckens, Pleasant Prairie, Wis.; and Debra Miller, Indianapolis; five grandchildren, Maisey and Aidan Schmidt, Karly, Kyle and Justin Dierckens; and sister, Rosalie (Joe) Pineno. He is also survived by his former wife, Claire Machinist, Grayslake, Ill.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave., Libertyville, IL 60048. A funeral will be held during the visitation at 7 p.m. Interment will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Luzerne.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
