Merrell Britt of Hanover Township, passed away Friday, July 4, 2014, at his home.

Born Jan. 5, 1936, in Lake City, S.C., he was a son of the late Baxter and Ethel Jackson Britt and also his stepfather, the late James Jackson.

Merrell was a 1954 graduate of Lake City High School in South Carolina. He was an Air Force veteran of Vietnam, receiving the Air Force Longevity Service Award with two Bronze Stars, Oak Leaf Cluster and Good Conduct Medal with three Bronze Stars. After the Air Force, he was employed as a car salesman for 44 years, at various dealerships, the latest being Motorworld.

Surviving is his wife, the former Theresa M. Pekol, with whom he was married 59 years, on July 2; daughters, Roxanne Borum and her husband, Thomas, Hanover Township; and Elaine Britt, Nanticoke; grandchildren, Jason Britt and his wife, Brandy; Danielle Borum and her fiancé, Robert Snyder; Ashley Borum, and Brandon Borum; and great-grandchildren, Shelbie Britt, Anna Britt, Carter Britt, Sebastian Borum, Benjamin Britt, Jackson Yancey and Becca Snyder.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Jendrzejewski Funeral Home, 21 N. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. John Chmil officiating. Family and friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of services Wednesday.
