Michael J. Bantell, 89, of Pittston passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at home.

Born in Pittston on May 10, 1925, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary Granatero Bantell.

He graduated from Pittston High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He and his brothers owned and operated Bantell's Paint and Hardware Store in Pittston for more than 40 years.

He loved to dance, especially polkas, and often appeared on the WVIA polka show. He was also active with the Pittston Senior Center.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sabina Bockowski Garber Bantell; brothers, Dominick, Anthony and John Bantell; sister, Mary Willliams; and stepson, Paul Garber.

Surviving are his brother, Leonard Bantell, Maryland; sisters, Rose Kivak, New York; and Elizabeth Siegelman, New York City; stepdaughter, Joan McNulty, Exeter; caregiver and granddaughter, Kim Rugletic and her husband, David, Duryea, and their children, Nicole and Josh Rugletic; numerous nieces and nephews.

As per Mike's request, funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are entrusted to Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William St., Pittston.
