Michael J. (Shoemaker) Gluhanick, 65, of Hanover Township passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, in Bellevue Hospital Center in New York City while vacationing with his family.

He was born in Wilkes-Barre on Feb. 29, 1948, a son of the late Michael and Cecilia Walsh Gluhanick.
Michael was a graduate of Meyers High School, Class of 1966, and a graduate of Wilkes College in 1975, where he received his degree in accounting.
He was an Air Force veteran, serving during the Vietnam War.
Michael was employed as an accountant and he owned and operated Shoemaker Tire in Wilkes-Barre for many years.
Michael was a longtime member of St. Boniface Church, Wilkes-Barre, prior to its closing and had been active in many church-related activities. He currently was an active member of Holy Family Church, Sugar Notch. He also served as a coach for the Wilkes-Barre Cosmos Soccer Association. He was a member of American Legion Post 815, Wilkes-Barre Township.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Karen Clinton and infant Catherine Gluhanick.
Michael is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marlene Nahadil Gluhanick; children, Marla G. Campbell, M.S.P.T., and her husband, Kenneth Campbell, Mountain Top; and Michael W. Gluhanick, M.D., and his girlfriend, Meera Sareen, M.D., Pittsburgh; grandsons, Austin and Aiden Campbell; sisters, Rosemary Etzele, Wilkes-Barre; June Swida, Wilkes-Barre; and Peggy McGlynn, Mountain Top; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 8:45 a.m. Thursday from Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 828 Main St., Sugar Notch.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
