Stanley J. Daniels Jr., beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, of Bear Creek Boulevard, Plains Township, passed into eternal life Tuesday evening, March 5, 2013, at his residence in the company of his loving family.

Born Oct. 8, 1925, in Edwardsville, he was the son of the late Stanley J. and Susan Strutko Daniels Sr. He was educated in the Edwardsville schools.

Following his education, Mr. Daniels proudly served our country with the U.S. Navy during World War II as a carpenter's mate, second class, later earning the rank of captain upon his honorable discharge from military service on March 22, 1946.

Until his retirement, he was employed as a building inspector by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of General Services.

Previously, he was employed as a general contractor, serving many areas of northeastern Pennsylvania.

Mr. Daniels was a member of St. Andre Bessette Parish in northeast Wilkes-Barre. He was also a founding member and past commander of Catholic War Vets Post 752; captain of the Edwardsville Auxiliary Police; captain of the Civil Defense on the West Side of the Wyoming Valley, assisting during the devastation of the Agnes flood of 1972.

He is remembered by family and friends for his gardening skills and his civic-mindedness to his hometown of Edwardsville.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, the former Alice M. Sulzinski, on April 28, 2009.

Surviving are his son, Stanley J. Daniels III, at home, and his fiancee, Karen Fetterolf, Wilkes-Barre; daughters, Alice Stofko and her husband, Albert, Clarks Summit; Mary Jean Mentyka and her husband, Robert, State College; 11 grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Mickey and Eleanor Baron, New Cumberland; Dorothy Kusminski, Maryland; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Daniels will be conducted at 9 a.m. Saturday from the North Wilkes-Barre location of John V. Morris Family Funeral Homes Inc., 625 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in the St. Stanislaus Kostka worship site of St. Andre Bessette Parish, 663 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Father Kenneth M. Seegar, pastor, officiating.

Interment with full military honors will follow in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery, 1594 S. Main St., Hanover Township.

Relatives and friends may join Mr. Daniels' family for visitation and remembrances from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Morris Funeral Home.
