Allen R. Stickley, Jr.
Allen R. Stickley, Jr., age 81, of Starkville, MS passed away April 18, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen R. Stickley and Dunreath Posey Stickley of Washington, D.C. He served in the National Guard during the Korean War. He graduated from George Washington University with a BS degree in zoology and obtained a masters degree in wildlife management from Virginia Tech. He began his career as a black bear research biologist with the Virginia Fish & Game Commission and after 3 years began his life's career as research biologist for the USDA. His specialty was dealing with bird depredations to agricultural crops and other wildlife issues. He was a bird enthusiast, a long-suffering fan of the Cleveland Indians and Washington Redskins and a devoted volunteer for The Salvation Army. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mildred Floyd Stickley; brother C. Martin Stickley (Dottie) of Brentwood, TN; children Heather S. Cable (Frank) of Olive Branch, MS and Holly S. Crystal (Bucky) of Jackson, MS; grandson, Reed A. Cable, and nieces and nephews. A Memorial service will be held on Monday, April 22, 2013 at 11 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Starkville, MS.
