Dorothy C. Valentine
Dorothy C. Valentine, 79, died December 24, 2013 at her home. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 30, 2013 at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland with burial following in Jessamine Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Dorothy C. Valentine was born on June 24, 1934, in Elgin, Illinois, the daughter of the late Arthur and Adella Green. Upon graduation from Elgin High School, she continued her education, earning an associate's degree as a Social Worker. Dorothy spent her entire professional career as a social worker at the University of Texas Medical Branch and retired from the Clarke County Neighborhood Community Center. She married Mr. Johnny B. Hopson, and to this union one child was born, Jonathon L. Hopson. She would eventually marry the love of her life, Mr. Melvin C. Valentine. They were united in Holy Matrimony on November 26, 1994. In the year of 2006, she moved from Texas back to Mississippi to be closer to her son, daughter-n-law and her two adorable grandchildren, that she was truly fond of. Dorothy was an avid reader of novels and the Bible. She loved her family, friends and truly loved the Lord. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin C. Valentine. She is survived by a very loving, caring and dutiful son, Jonathan L. Hopson and his wife, Kimberly of Madison; grandchildren, Jonathan "Myles" and JaMya Symone Hopson; One brother, Arthur Green of Elgin, IL and one sister, Alberta Lanier of Gary, IN and numerous nieces and nephews: Angie, Sherry, Johnny, Lynn, Jay, Jerry, Ginger, Wendy, Billy, Steve, Aaron, and Adam.
