Lundy Reid Gunn, Sr., passed away on August 3, 2013 at the Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. Lundy was born on October 6, 1924, to William Edward and Catherine Cribbs Gunn in Tutwiler, MS. He graduated from Tutwiler High School in May, 1943, where he played football for the Tutwiler Minks and was an Eagle Scout. Like most young men of his generation, Lundy immediately enlisted in the army to serve in World War II. Lundy was a 1st Lieutenant serving in the European Theater Operations. He received several medals including two Bronze Stars. Lundy entered Ole Miss upon returning to the States and earned his BBA in Marketing Merchandising and his law degree from the University of Mississippi Law School in 1952. While at Ole Miss, he met his wife of 64 years, Jo Bogard of Parkin, Arkansas. He was a loyal Ole Miss Rebel and enjoyed many years of attending football games and tailgating. Jo and Lundy are members of Christ United Methodist Church. Lundy enjoyed a successful career in the insurance industry earning many accolades and countless friends. He was a lifetime member of MDRT and the Past President of MALU, JALU and CLU/ChFC. Lundy was named "Man of the Year" in 1984 by the JALU. He was active in the North Jackson Lions Club for many years. Lundy could light up a room and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He could tell countless stories and jokes and the best ones involved the Delta and Tallahatchie County. His children recently put together a collection of his best quotes and sayings. He loved to say, "Pray for a good harvest but keep on hoeing" and "I wonder what the folks in Tutwiler are doing tonight." Lundy was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, William Gunn and his sister Catherine Gunn Dulaney. He is survived by his wife, Jo Bogard Gunn, his daughter, Joree Gunn Brownlow (Jim), and his sons, Lundy R. Gunn, Jr. (Nancy), Michael Bogard Gunn and Thomas William Gunn. Lundy was affectionately known to his grandchildren as "Big Boy". He is survived by eight grandchildren: Marshall McKinney, Wood Brownlow, Lesley Gunn Miller, Reid Gunn, Bo Gunn, Alicia Higginbotham, Olivia Gunn and Elinor Gunn. Visitation will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 5, 2013 prior to the 3:00 service at the Sebrell Funeral Home chapel in Ridgeland, MS. Burial will follow at the Chapel of the Cross Cemetery in Madison, MS.The family requests that memorials be made to Christ United Methodist Church.
