Mitch Harkins, Jr.


Mitchell H. Harkins, Jr., passed away July 12, 2013 at the age of 59 in Jackson. The funeral mass will be held at St. Richard Catholic Church in Jackson at 11 AM Tuesday, July 16th. Visitation will be Monday, July 15th at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home on Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland from 5:00 until 7:00 PM with a prayer service following. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the funeral mass at the church.

Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Mitchell H. and Mary Harkins. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Linda Harkins, children Daniel Harkins (Anna) of Madison, MS and Timothy Harkins of Brandon, MS. He is also survived by his siblings, Cathy Kruse (Tommy) of Mobile, AL, Pat Harkins (Becky) of Madison, MS, Steve Harkins of Ridgeland, MS, Thad Harkins of Birmingham, AL, Brad Harkins (Chloe) of Birmingham, AL, Margaret Capone (Lou) of Grapevine, TX, Charlie Harkins (Elizabeth) of Mobile, AL, Sean Harkins (Michele) of Lumberton, TX, Mary Cecelia Bokros (Randy) of Jacksonville, FL and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Harkins, a long time employee of Entergy, was a second generation graduate from St. Joseph High School in 1971. He graduated from Mississippi State University with a bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering in 1976.

Mr. Harkins began his career working for Mississippi Power & Light (later Entergy) and has held various positions with the company throughout the state of Mississippi, most recently as an Account Service Manager. He was also active in the community and served various positions in the Ridgeland Chamber of Commerce, Lexington Chamber, Lexington Rotary Club and was a founding member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Gloster, MS.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling with his family and friends. He was the happiest spending time with his large, extended family.
