Russell Lee Caffey , 85, passed away Sunday July 7, 2013 at University Medical Center. He was born November 26, 1927 in Walnut Grove Ms. His parents were Leona Tidwell Caffey and William H. Caffey. They spent most of his life growing up in Union Ms. He graduated from Union High School where he played football and was Co-Captain his junior year and Captain his senior year. He also played basketball and baseball throughout his high school years. He joined the Navy after High School and served 4 years in the Korean War. During the war he received 4 Battle Stars, Japan Ribbon, Korean Ribbon and A Good Conduct Medal.
In 1954 he married the Love of his life Frances Thornton Caffey. They moved to Jackson where he ran a meat market for several years and then changed careers. He retired after 28 years from Vickers/Eaton Corporation. He was also a member of Midway Baptist Church for 39 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Club 18 in Jasper County for over 30 years.
In January 1998 after retirement they moved to Madison to be near their children, and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Frances of 59 years. His two daughters; Connie and husband Chris Tardo; their children Natalie and Nathan Tardo. Daughter Allison and husband David Lowther
and their child Austin. He had one Great Grand Daughter Kaylee Tardo and also a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 4-7pm today at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Ridgeland. Funeral services will be 11:00am Wednesday July 10, 2013 at Midway Baptist Church preceded by visitation at 10am. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park.
