Sierra Sue Osgood
One of Heavenly Father's angels, Sierra Sue Osgood, 66, returned home Friday, August 16, 2013 after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Sue was born October 17, 1946 in Las Vegas, NV. She graduated from Rancho High School (Las Vegas) and attended Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. She married her eternal sweetheart, Dennis Harvey Osgood, on June 3, 1968 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They eventually made their home in Brandon, MS, where they raised their family and served the community and church.
Mom worked for the Mississippi Department of Employment Security, retiring after 30 years of service. Her full-time job was caring for her family. She spent her life on the sidelines watching baseball games and band performances. She was an extremely talented seamstress. She made prom dresses, princess dresses for her granddaughters that were the envy of all their friends, and sewed beautiful quilts and blankets. The last few years, she loved spending her days at the sewing store in Byram, MS.
Mom's love and influence cannot be measured. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served faithfully and tirelessly. She loved learning and teaching about our Savior, Jesus Christ. Her 16 years in the Seminary program as a teacher and area coordinator were her most cherished. She also served with Dad in the Baton Rouge LDS Temple. Through the years, Mom has discovered family and friends all over the country while doing Family History research. When asked about the first person she wanted to see on the other side, she replied "My Heavenly Father". She is now free of pain and suffering, enjoying joyous reunions with family and friends, and awaiting the future day that our eternal family will be together again.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Dennis; her children Dennis James Osgood of Paso Robles, CA; Anjanette (Drew) Buck of West Jordan, UT; Darrell (Teresa) Osgood of Silverdale, WA; her grandsons - Allan, Scott, Robert & David and granddaughters - Sierra Faye, Kiara & Alyssia. She is preceded in death by her father, Gomer Lawrence Jones, and her mother, Pauline Jean Bates.
The family would like to thank Dr. Grace Shumaker and all the caring staff of Jackson Oncology Associates as well as the members of the Brandon, MS LDS ward for their love and support.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 21 at Jenkins Soffe Funeral Home, 1007 W South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, Utah. A viewing will be held at 11:00 am and services will immediately follow at 12:00 noon. Interment will be at Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park in Bluffdale, Utah.
