Bedford Calhoun Heaven gained another angel, in the person of my dad, Bedford Calhoun. Bedford was born May 7, 1922 and went home to be with Jesus on June 26, 2014 at 92 years of age to a stroke. He leaves to cherish his memory Ruth Stallings Calhoun, his wife of 60 years, his daughters Mary Calhoun and Martha Calhoun Lamb (Ricky) and his nieces Carolina Lamb and Leslie Lamb, and his nephew Howard Calhoun, He was a proud graduate of Southside High School and Vanderbilt University and a World War II veteran serving in New Guinea. He owned Delta Surgical Medical Supply and always ran it with high ethics and customer service. He was always devoted to his church, starting at LaBelle as a child, Bellevue Baptist as a young man, where he met my mother, Whitehaven Baptist as we were growing up and Germantown Baptist till the end. He was a great Christian example for both my sister and I and countless young people over the years that he taught in Training Union at Bellevue, Sunday School at GBC and Royal Ambassadors at WBC he remembered all those he taught and enjoyed the pictures I showed him on Facebook of all of them. He had high expectations for us and for anyone who worked for him, but that taught us the work ethic that we have. I was so proud of the fact that he was a World War II veteran as as well. He was one of the most outgoing people ever, and always put others before himself. He took care of us and my mother until the end, and we all love him dearly. We will miss you terribly, but we know you are watching over us, Dad, and we'll see you soon! Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Monday, June 30 and graveside services will be 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 1. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., next Tuesday, July 8 with the family receiving friends beginning at 12 p.m. All services will be at: Memorial Park Funeral Home, "Behind the stone wall", 901-767-8930.
