Joseph Harrison III, 80, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 5, 2014, at his home in Cambridge, Mass., surrounded by his loving family.

Born March 23, 1934, in Philadelphia, the youngest of five children, he attended Haverford School and graduated from Harvard University in 1956. He began his banking career in Philadelphia, then moved to New Hampshire where he was president of two banks and the founder and president of Energy Conscious Homes, through which he built more than 60 environmentally friendly houses. Later in his career, he worked for several not-for-profits developing affordable housing in Laconia and Concord.
Joe was a warm, vibrant man who lived life to its fullest. He was and remains an inspiration and role model to his family and to many others that he met throughout his life. Joe lived a life of love and integrity.
He is survived by his wife, Ellie; his three daughters, Lucretia H. Kender, Sarah H. Steele and Jennifer H. Adkisson; his two stepsons, Niels A. Zellers and Andrew R. Zellers; their spouses and his six grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday, June 7, at 5 p.m. at Harvard Memorial Church (Appleton Chapel), with reception to follow.
