Robert C Houston died Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at the Hospice House in Concord.

Rob, son of the late Blanche A. and Everett Y. Houston, leaves his wife Edith who was married to him for 62 years. He leaves his brothers Everett Houston, William "Nick" Houston and wife, Barbara and Donald Houston and his wife Joanne. Bob also leaves four children, their spouses, and grandchildren, including Virginia Haines and her husband, Richard, their sons, Daniel, Jon and William and granddaughter, Evelyn; Catherine Tuttle and her husband, Peter, and their sons, Robert "Emerson", along with Samuel and his wife, Katherine; Caroline Holden and her husband, Kelly, and their daughters, Morgan and Alison and Richard Houston and his daughters, Abigail and Madelyn.

Bob was a lifelong resident of Contoocook, graduated from Hopkinton High School, and earned an Associate Degree in Animal Science from the Thompson School at UNH. He owned Pine Lane Farm in the village of Contoocook. His dairy farm earned much recognition including the New England Green Pastures Award in 1992 and Dairy Farm of the Year. He was a member of DHIA, Farm Bureau, and the Granite State Dairymen Assn.

While serving the town of Hopkinton as a volunteer fireman for many years, Bob served as deputy chief from 1968-1973, and chief from 1973 to 1979. Bob also served on the town Zoning Board and Economic Development Committee, as well as the Contoocook River Committee. In addition, Bob drove a school bus for the Hopkinton School District for many years.

Bob will be remembered as being ever safety-conscious, giving fire extinguishers to his children as Christmas presents. He was a lifelong steward of his family, his employees, and his agricultural land. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Bob will be remembered as a resourceful and hardworking man, who showed his love of life with a gracious smile, sense of humor, and strength of character.

Bob's time on earth will be celebrated Sunday, Sept. 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Houston Park.
